POSITION PURPOSE:  

 

As a key member of the superintendent’s cabinet, the Chief of Equity and Student Achievement plays a pivotal role in overseeing administrative and strategic initiatives aimed at cultivating, attaining, and enhancing optimal educational offerings for every student. This role encompasses leadership in devising, organizing, and executing all educational services, fostering elevated student success through equitable, high-quality instruction for both students and district employees. The Chief of Equity and Student Achievement is entrusted with spearheading and fostering collaboration among schools and departments to nurture an environment that is student-centric, achievement-driven, and aligned with a unified vision of exceptional teaching and learning. This leadership role emphasizes building educator skills, engendering commitment, and prioritizing data-driven accountability to ensure the flourishing of all students. The Chief of Equity and Student Achievement oversees the management, advancement, implementation, and harmonization of programs and personnel across various departments, including curriculum and instruction, professional development, student services, research and evaluation, language, culture, and equity, career and innovation, and integrated services. A critical facet of this position involves executing the district's equity plan in alignment with the overarching strategic plan, mission, and vision, particularly championing inclusivity for all while narrowing the achievement gaps among students. The Chief of Equity and Student Achievement shapes institutional policies, procedures, and initiatives to foster a climate of equity and inclusivity that honors, values, and responds to the diverse needs of students, staff, parents, and the broader community.










SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

 Leadership and Collaboration: Lead collaborative efforts with schools and departments to create a student-focused, results-oriented environment. Cultivate a shared vision of exemplary teaching and learning, emphasizing educator development and data-driven accountability. 

 

Planning and Implementation: Design and implement learning services to enhance student achievement through quality instruction district-wide.

Oversight and Supervision: Direct operations, development, and evaluation of programs in key departments such as curriculum, professional development, student services, and research.

Stakeholder Engagement: Engage stakeholders to achieve the district's vision for teaching and learning excellence.

Instructional Strategy Development: Identify and recommend effective instructional strategies based on research and district goals.

 Curriculum Interpretation: Communicate curriculum changes and outcomes to the Board, staff, and community with expertise in quality instructional materials.

Strategic Planning: Ensuring alignment with school system objectives and strategic plan.

 Data Analysis and Utilization: Collect, analyze, and apply various data to improve instructional programs and staff training.

Collaboration for Improvement: Collaborate with school and community leaders to implement best practices for instructional success.

Professional Development Coordination:  Oversee district-wide professional development efforts, focusing on curriculum, team performance, DEI, and data-driven instruction.

 

Equity Plan Implementation:- Lead equity initiatives, monitoring progress, and managing external partnerships for training and support.

 

Committee Leadership: Chair district equity committees and engage family/community components of the equity plan.

 

Advisor and Advocate: Act as a trusted advisor and advocate for equity-related matters impacting students, staff, and families.

 

Knowledge Sharing:  Share expertise on DEI concepts, culturally responsive teaching, and social justice in education.

 

Operationalizing DEI Vision:- Support colleagues in implementing DEI actions and integrating the vision into organizational practices.

 

Communication and Feedback: - Establish communication channels to address equity issues, share best practices, and update staff on initiatives.

 

 Addressing Inequalities:  Collaborate to identify and address barriers to student engagement and achievement, especially for diverse populations.

 

Data Analysis for Outreach: - Utilize data to track and analyze diversity, equity, and outreach strategies within the district.

 

Leadership Model:  Demonstrate effective leadership traits such as integrity, communication, and strategic thinking.

 

Compliance and Standards:  Ensure all activities align with federal, state, and accreditation standards to meet district goals.

 

Departmental Leadership:- Provide leadership in departmental functions, including budgeting and program priorities.

 

Financial Planning:  Participate in budget development and long-term financial planning at the executive level.

 

Additional Duties:  Perform other assigned duties as needed by the superintendent.

Strong grasp of school improvement planning, fostering equity, leading high-performing teams, and spearheading professional development initiatives.

Proficient in overseeing a sizable team of educational professionals to swiftly address student performance challenges.

Comprehensive understanding of adult learning principles with a track record of delivering impactful professional development.

Possesses exceptional problem-solving skills and exercises sound judgment in decision-making.

Thorough familiarity with developing the capacity of school leaders to drive improvements in program quality and instructional strategies, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and advancing student success.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at presentations, and proficient in data analysis.

Cultivates effective relationships with School Board members, school administrators, educators, staff, and support personnel.

Capable of conceptualizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating both new and existing programs.

Up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements pertaining to equity in  public education.

Skilled in initiating collaborative efforts, problem-solving, and focusing on solutions.

Proficient in utilizing the Racial Equity Impact Assessment (REIA) to address and prevent racial discrimination and disparities.

Familiarity with contemporary concepts and issues in diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism, particularly within the public education sphere.

Approachable demeanor, skilled in working with diverse stakeholders with varying perspectives and experiences.

Ability to navigate tough conversations respectfully and professionally with diverse groups.

Proficient in culturally-responsive leadership, teaching practices, social justice, and diversity initiatives as integral components of academic excellence.

Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating and collaborating with students, parents, community members, and school personnel from diverse backgrounds.

Expertise in conducting professional development sessions, facilitating group discussions, and delivering tailored equity training to various stakeholders.

Acts as an internal resource, collaboratively engaging with diverse stakeholders in complex and politically sensitive environments.

Proficient in leading organizational change processes, guiding individuals and teams toward shared objectives.

Ability to operate and lead effectively at the Cabinet/Executive Leadership level, demonstrating a strong understanding of systemic thinking and political dynamics.

Skilled in collecting, analyzing, and utilizing assessment and school data to drive informed decision-making.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: 

Master’s degree in education, school administration, public policy, or related area.

A minimum of three years of professional experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion issues and providing culturally responsive service and teaching. 

A minimum of 4 to 5 years as an effective educational administrator, including as a principal in a diverse school setting.

Leadership experience at the Central Office/Central Services level strongly preferred.



WORKING CONDITIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is considered light physical work requiring the  exertion of up to 20 pounds of force.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this position are required to work in indoor  and outdoor environments, and come into direct contact  with OCS staff, students and the public.
