POSITION PURPOSE
As a GUIDE Lead Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for underrepresented beginning teachers within our educational setting. GUIDE Lead Mentors will coordinate mentorship efforts to build diverse and equitable educational workspaces. This role involves guiding mentors and mentees, ensuring effective mentorship relationships, and promoting professional growth and development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Five Years of Teaching Experience;
- Knowledge of best practices for beginning teachers' support;
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to participate in professional development;
- Minimum of proficiency and above on all standards on the last two years summative evaluation, with preference given to those with accomplished and above on standards III and IV;
- Positive EVAAS Growth when applicable;
- Recommendation of Principal;
- Experience working with Beginning Teachers in the school setting;
- Experience working providing professional development for adults
- Experience working with a diverse group of staff to ensure culturally relevant pedagogy.
JOB DUTIES
- Establish a trusting relationship with beginning teachers, particularly teachers from under-represented demographics.
- Create opportunities for beginning teachers to connect with diverse professions within and outside Orange County Schools.
- Lead affinity groups for beginning teachers, particularly teachers from under-represented demographics.
- Offer guidance and support to beginning teachers, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge needed for inclusive teaching practices.
- Provide direct mentorship to selected beginning teachers as needed, focusing on career development and professional growth.
- Conduct training sessions for beginning teachers/mentors on best practices, inclusivity, and culturally relevant teaching techniques.
- Advocate for and implement strategies to ensure the Beginning Teacher Support Program fosters inclusivity and equitable work environments.
- Identify barriers faced by underrepresented beginning teachers and provide support to overcome them.
- Collect feedback from participants in continuous improvement efforts.
- Collaborate with HR to increase underrepresented beginning teachers' recruitment and retention efforts.
